This course is intended for providers with a strong foundation in scar revision treatments. Experts across the board will share the benefits and downfalls of past scar treatments and give intel on new and emerging laser technologies. Peter Shumaker, MD

Peter Shumaker, MD, retired as a Captain in the United States Navy having spent more than a third of his 22 years of service as Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at the Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD). Dr. Shumaker completed a Procedural Dermatology fellowship at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, CA, and has since developed a special focus in Mohs surgery and laser medicine. Dr. Shumaker and colleagues have been dedicated to facilitating the functional and cosmetic recovery of wounded warriors and other patients with traumatic scarring and other related injuries. He has presented nationally and internationally on cutting edge scar management, co-authored articles published in top journals from 7 different medical specialties, led an annual national multidisciplinary Summit on trauma rehabilitation, served as team lead for a multi-year engagement in burn scar revision and restorative medicine in Vietnam, and served as co-Editor for The Scar Book published in 2017, the first comprehensive textbook on scar pathophysiology and management. He previously served on the Editorial Board for the Society publication Lasers in Surgery and Medicine. He continues his service to veterans as Chief of Dermatology at the VA San Diego and he is a non-salaried Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Diego.
Jill S. Waibel, MD
Jill S. Waibel, MD, practices as a board-certified dermatologist specializing in general dermatology, cutaneous laser surgery, and cosmetic dermatology for adults and children. She is in private practice in Miami, Florida, and Coral Gables, Florida. She is currently the medical director and owner of the Miami Dermatology and Laser Institute in Miami. Dr. Waibel is the subsection chief of Dermatology at Baptist Hospital. In addition, Dr. Waibel serves as a Clinical Voluntary Assistant Professor at the University of Miami. She is a world-recognized leader in dermatologic laser surgery and lectures worldwide to train other physicians. In her practice, she has over 40 laser devices and treats a wide variety of cutaneous diseases. Dr. Waibel is active in basic science clinical trials at the University of Miami and has a clinical trials division at Miami Dermatology and Research. One of Dr. Waibel’s primary passions is the treatment of scars by applying today’s latest cutaneous laser technologies. She has successfully developed industry-leading procedures and techniques with lasers, received numerous awards for her contributions to medicine, and published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and several textbook chapters. She was named “Person of the Week” on ABC World News Tonight in 2015 and was recently granted a Cutting Edge Research Grant by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. She has received numerous awards for her contributions to medicine, including an award given by Surgeon General Koop. The 2016 JDD Humanitarian Award has been given to Dr. Waibel for her innovative work in using lasers to treat patients with traumatic burn injuries. Dr. Waibel lectures, collaborates, and trains military physicians to help the wounded warriors. Dr. Waibel makes her home in Coral Gables with her husband and four children.

Dr. Mitchel P. Goldman is Medical Director of Cosmetic Laser Dermatology and Platinum Dermatology Partners. A graduate of Boston University and the Stanford University Medical School, Dr. Goldman is a Volunteer Clinical Professor, Retirered in Dermatology at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Goldman is Board Certified by the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Cosmetic Surgery. He has authored and/or co-authored 21 Textbooks on Dermatologic Surgery, Sclerotherapy, Ambulatory Phlebectomy, Cutaneous Laser Surgery, Cellulite and Cosmetic Surgery as well as over 350 peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters. Dr. Goldman is a recipient of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery’s 21st Century Achievement Award and the 2009 Presidents Award, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery For Outstanding Contribution in Teaching and Research and the 2016 Presidential Citation, American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery for invaluable contribution as an international ambassador and worldwide leader in laser and energy device education. He is Past-President, of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American Vein and Lymphatic Society.
